The King of the Windjammers

The King of the Windjammers

GUSTAF ERIKSON – King of Windjammers on the museum-ship Pommern in Mariehamn. Gustaf Erikson’s Pommern is the only four-masted barque ship in the world that has been preserved in her original state. Premiere on 17 June at 18.30 onboard the Pommern with a party afterwards.

Theatre play in two acts by Robert Liewendahl. Gustaf Erikson was born in Lemland, Åland, in the year of the storm in 1872. The play depicts the fascinating life story of the man who signed on a ship for the first time as a 10-year old galley boy and made his way to the top. He became a captain and owner of the world’s largest fleet of windjammers in the 1920–40’s.

His life was not only filled with joy, but also with deep sorrows. In the play we meet many persons – from Gustaf’s family-members to seamen, captains, presidents and royal persons who all played an important role in his dramatic life.
