Hot nights, ice-cold drinks and heavy bass. In the summertime Åland’s outdoor venues are packed with partygoers. Everything from pop, rock, house, R&B and the latest from Europe’s club scene is played on the dance floors.
Exactly the same as in Finnish Hangö or in Swedish Gotland, night life flourishes in Åland in the summertime. During the PAF Open the atmosphere is as brilliant as it is during Tennis Week in Båstad. When the RockOff festival is held, Mariehamn completely explodes. And all of the night clubs are located in the Eastern Harbour.
Kino, the old cinema, is this year’s hottest outdoor venue
Kino is Mariehamn’s newest outdoor venue. The owner, Dennis Jansson, ventures the claim that it is one of the Nordic area’s hottest clubs.
“The building used to be an old cinema. Now the theme is ultrabaroque with computerised LED lighting on the whole of the dance floor. The music is drawn from the big club scenes all around Europe.
Famous DJs like Nause and Salong Betong have already played at the club and been an enormous success. Salong Betong reckons that here people party in a way they’ve never done before. What DJs are going to be guests at the club this summer Dennis Jansson isn’t telling. He encourages anyone who’s interested to keep an eye on the club’s Facebook page.
Mainstream summer hits and Moet Ice
The Hotell Arkipelag’s night club majors on mainstream summer hits. For instance, you can be sure that Alina Devercerski’s “Flytta på dig” and Panetoz’s “Dansa Pausa” are going to be hot this summer. If you want to stop and take a break from dancing yourself, you can go to the poolbar and order the most popular drink of the summer, a bottle of Moet Ice. Upstairs the cover band Soudway plays party hits.
Hard rock and lounge bar
Mariehamn also has clubs with other types of music to offer. Is it hard rock, metal or punk that gets your toes tapping? Then Dino’s Bar & Grill is well worth a visit. At weekends a live band plays at Dino’s, or else there is a rock DJ to create the right atmosphere. Indigo is the more exclusive alternative. The owners have a weakness for champagne and while you sip from your glass you get to take it easy at the bar or dance to soft hits on the dance floor.
