Åland is an island for the whole family – an island also for the children

The Åland islands feature many advantages for a family with children. There are short distances, no traffic jam and there is lots of elbowroom.

Åland is surrounded by the sea and a beach or shore is always near – in Mariehamn alone there are four beaches to choose from. One of them is near the swimming centre Mariebad where you can also try out the water slide and the indoors adventure bath.

Sometimes simple is best. A cottage, a pier and a fishing rod. The fish may or may not take the bait. On Åland there are many possibilities for enjoyable cottage living, both in Mariehamn and in the countryside.

Sometimes an excursion is tempting – maybe a medieval castle with ghosts or a museum where the children will be cared for in the best possible way. For many the ride through the game pasture in Eckerö is a high-point where you can see both deer and small wild boar piglets.

Åland also offers many events that suit the whole family, for example the Viking Market 24-26 July, Bomarsundsdagarna 9-10 August or the Harvest Festival 19-21 September.
