Would you like to try out an activity that is really different, one where it’s all about working together? A new curling centre is opening in Eckerö in Åland in spring/summer 2013. “It’s an excellent way for companies, groups of friends and school classes to build up a proper team spirit. And for professional curlers it’s an excellent training rink,” says Mari Wickström at Åland’s curling centre "Vianor curlingcenter".
Arrange your next conference at Åland’s newly refurbished Maritime Museum. The auditorium is perfect for meetings and during the breaks you can learn more about shipping from the museum’s interactive stations. For example, you can have a go at navigating a large ship or at keeping your balance on the main mast of a lurching ship.
Craving for a race with pace and excitement? Then Lemland’s Go-kart track is well worth a visit. The charm of go-karting attracts companies, families, groups of friends and school class groups.
Now you can have your journey by air all the way to Mariehamn in one booking. Travellers from countries all over the world can change flights in Helsinki or Stockholm and land in the island state an hour later. Getting your luggage out is really quick and after a ten-minute taxi ride you can be at a hotel in the town centre.
How about flying to the conference? For me it almost felt like getting out of a private plane. Travelling on the daily flights to Mariehamn from Helsinki, Turku and Stockholm is not particularly expensive. It’s not just conference guests and business travellers who fly to Mariehamn airport; young people and tourists do as well.
Far up in Northern Åland lies one of the island state's conference centres of excellence. April 2012 will see the opening of some new premises to be able to accommodate 120 conference guests. There is a new meeting building with a lounge where people can relax in front of a fireplace. Many want to have meetings by the sea – they find it inspiring.
A grand climax with fireworks and entertainment, or a time of devotion at the Seafarers’ Chapel. Tailor-made conferences and meetings are something of an Åland speciality.
At the beginning of July a large group of yachtsmen from New York Yacht Club and North American Station will be visiting Åland. Come along on their trip from Mariehamn to Kökar!
