Conference and group activities from A to Z

It is the recreational activities that will put a silver lining on the conference or group tour. Down below you will find many tips and inspiration for planning your Åland trip.

YEAR ROUND ACTIVITIES


Art in Åland. A guided round trip with everything from museums, galleries, churches and visits to artist's studios. With Ålands Turist & Konferens you can book an art show in Andersudde, owned by the businessman Anders Wiklöf, (paintings of the Önningeby colony artists, Gittan Jönsson's "Diskkasterskan", Düsseldorf paintings, Carl Larsson's "Midvinterblot").


Bowling in Idrottsgården's newly renovated bowling alley in Mariehamn. There are a total of eight newly laminated lanes in the hall.


Cooking experiences where you prepare your own gourmet meal guided by a skilled chef.


Dive into the pool or sit in the sauna at the relax departments in a hotel, the swimming centre Mariebad or in one of the city's spa departments.


Eckerö Mail & Custom's House, the Kastelholm castle and the Bomarsund fortress ruins are examples of main sights.


Fishing excursion with a skilled sport fishing guide in the archipelago around Mariehamn or where the fishing is best for the day. The tour includes fishing tackle, safe boats, fishing license fees, floating overalls, a meal or coffee.


Gym and group training in Träningsverket or Avancia.


Horseback riding for skilled or beginner riders. For example in Stall Aftonsol or the Riding Club Sleipner. Also terrain riding and rides with Icelandic horses.

Mariehamn. There is much to see and experience in this maritime town – from museums, galleries, the Maritime Quarter and other beautiful environments as well as shopping, handicrafts, restaurants and different activities.


Museums in Åland. There are a total of 31 museums in Åland, choose between maritime museums, art museums, cultural history museums and farm museums.


Nautical is a restaurant that serves Shipper's Dinner incl. a guided tour and welcome cocktails in the Åland Maritime Museum.


Oasis Stud Poker basics, according to international rules, and American Roulette and Black Jack, according to Nordic rules, in the Casino School in Hotel Arkipelag. Learn them all in cooperation with Casino PAF.


Pub Stallhagen offers beer sampling in Ålands Bryggeri. Sample the different beers in the brewery and see the brewery hall through large panorama windows.


Round tour with a guide in a bus or a van. Tailored activities. The tour is arranged according to the group's interests, such as the Åland shipping industry, nature, history, art, handicrafts or something totally different.

The Churches of Åland are 16, one in each parish. The oldest have a history that stretches back to the 1100's.

WINTER ACTIVITIES


Ice swimming at the Lilla Holmen beach or by the swimming centre Mariebad.


Kiteboarding on ice for long distance skaters and snowboarders with Larsson's Water sport.


Long-distance skating tours with a guide and all equipment.


Winter fishing with a guide, tackle and picnic basket. For example ice fishing or fishing with nets under the ice.


SPRING, SUMMER AND AUTUMN ACTIVITIES


Gruppaktiviteter SilverskärAn archipelago visit to the island Silverskär is suitable for both conferences and as a place for activities such as fishing, sailing, paddling, shooting, pentathlon, sauna and culinary experiences.


Boating outing to Kobba Klintar, Rödhamn, Boxö, Björkör or another fine archipelago island.


Bicycle tour with or without guide, for example to Järsö in southern Mariehamn.


Climbing. Try climbing with the help of an instructor.


Clay pigeon shooting at the high-class shooting ranges in Bredmo.


Diving. There are many fine shipwrecks in the sea surrounding Åland.


Drive a horse at the trotting track for one day.


Eckerö Äventyrscentrum offers crosscarting, a hybrid between go-cart and motorcross.


Friluftsentreprenörerna's adventure course in Eckerö Äventyrscentrum lets you test your balance, strength and courage.


Go-cart. Who is fastest around the 605 meter long go-cart track in Vessingsboda?


Golfing in Åland's Golf Club in Kastelholm on the Castle course or King's course alternatively in Eckerö Golf in Eckerö.


Golfing for beginners at the short-hole course at Eckerö Golf.


Hunting. Choose between autumn hunting for roe deer and shooting sea birds with a skilled hunting host.


Hike or walk along the short nature trails or the longer hiking trails. You can also walk the "Sjöfartspromenaden" in Mariehamn or make an outing to a lookout tower.


Gruppaktivitet Kastelholms slottJan Karlsgårdens open air museum which depicts an Åland farm from the end of the 1800's, a medieval castle and the creepy prison museum, Vita Björn, are all found in the ancient monument area of Kastelholm.


Miniature golfing, for example in Gröna Udden in Mariehamn or in Käringsundsbyn in Eckerö.


Paddling with a guide, for example to Kobba Klintar or among the islands in the archipelago.


Paintball at Eckerö Äventyrscentrum is a great combination of adrenaline and team building.


Seal safari on a guided boat tour.


Sailing with the ketch Albanus or the schooner Nordboen in the archipelago around Mariehamn.


The Bomarsund fortress ruins. Visit the ruins, the Notvik tower cannons, the Telegraph and the museum in the old pilot's house.


The Museum Ship Pommern is the only freight sailing ship of its kind in the world that is preserved in its original state. Nowadays the old cargo space is exhibition localities where photos, objects and films tell about life onboard.


Gruppaktivitet VikingamiddagViking dinner in the Viking village. Visit the Viking village in Saltvik and live a Viking life in Fornföreningen Fibula's newly built longhouse. Dressed in Viking clothes you learn about the culture of the Vikings and eat Viking inspired foods.


Vineyard visit to Tjudö Vineyard. There you can enjoy a guided tour in the vineyard.


Water sports. Try kiteboarding, parasailing, waterskiing, wakeboarding and other fun water sports such as hydro or tubes that are attached behind the boat, in company with Larsson's vattensport.

  • An adventure playground on a theme of pirates

On 9 June 2012 the new Leklandet will be opening its doors at Käringsund, Eckerö. The large Eckeröhallen sports hall will be filled with enormous inflatable bouncy castles, adventure obstacle courses, slides, football games and other inflatable attractions on a theme of pirates. There are a total of 21 different attractions. Full of mischief for children, young people and adults who need a break from playing on the beach.

How about flying to the conference? For me it almost felt like getting out of a private plane. Travelling on the daily flights to Mariehamn from Helsinki, Turku and Stockholm is not particularly expensive. It’s not just conference guests and business travellers who fly to Mariehamn airport; young people and tourists do as well.
