Diving

Shipwreck diving in the sea surrounding Åland takes you on an exciting journey back in time. Here the diving is unique - nowhere else in the world are the shipwrecks as large and well preserved as here.

This is thanks to the low salt and oxygen levels in the Baltic Sea combined with strict legislation on diving. The Åland government issues only a certain number of permits for people who want to dive, to ensure that the fine shipwrecks are protected and preserved.

If you are interested in going on a diving excursion to Åland, the easiest way is to contact a professional guide. The guide arranges all the necessary permits and all you have to think about is that your log book and diving certificate are in order.
