PaddlingIn the Åland island world the islands, sea bays and water ways never seem to end. You can quickly switch between the inner and outer archipelago. There are both calmer waters with a denser archipelago for the beginner, and the open sea for the more experienced kayaker.

According to the kayak renter Peter Nilsson at Nimix, there are two kayaking places that are especially popular:

"First and foremost there is northern Åland where you begin in Eckerö and continue north around Geta and then south toward Bomarsund in Sund. You can also paddle to Mariehamn or all the way around and then back to Eckerö again. This is a very varied route - from open sea, harsh landscape and granite red cliffs in the north to more of an archipelago in the south.

"Föglö is also a popular paddling area with dense archipelago and many small islands, he continues. It is suitable for a beginner or if you just want to paddle around in a safe environment."
