Sport fishing guides

If you want to get the most out of your fishing trip to Åland we recommend that you hire a sport fishing guide, at least the first day, if you choose to stay more than one day. The fishing guides know the fishing grounds and help you direct your fishing experience the right way. You are guaranteed to catch more fish and you'll get to see more of Åland. Additionally you can fully concentrate on the fishing while the guide takes care of the navigation.

STORMSKÄRS VÄRDSHUS & KONFERENS 

Mikael Lindholm has worked as a sport fishing guide since 1998: "I have a great interest in fishing and additionally I have very good fishing grounds."

Offers: Pike fishing in shallow waters with "common" gear.

Area: Mainly in the waters around Simskäla and Väderskär, but I can also guide in other waters on request.

Boats: Nymar 610 max five persons, Naviga 8S max seven persons, plastic gig, max four persons. Guide cooperation for up to 30 persons. If you book in advance there will be no problem.

The guiding includes: Rods with open reels + seasonal baits included for all guests. Floating overalls for all, rubber boots if needed and of course life jackets for all. Also a picnic basket (cold or warm food, mainly fish of all kinds), accommodation in a double room and full pension for groups of up to 13 persons.

Price example, standard guiding ½ day: 110 euro per person including equipment, floating overall, coffee and sandwich. And of course a boat, guide and fishing license.

Other: We go fishing on my own waters and there is no crowding with other fishermen. This is a very beautiful archipelago environment and there is a possibility to spot sea eagles, sea birds and sometimes seals.

COJA FISHING

Conny Jansson has worked as a sport fishing guide since 2004: "Because I have always wanted to work with my hobby."

Offers: Fishing for pike, perch and sometimes trout.

Special interests: My specialty is jerkbait but I also use traditional baits.

Area: Föglö

Boats: Bella Sumar, 5 persons. Rönnqvist, 3 persons.

The guiding includes: Rod, baits and life jackets.

Price example, standard guiding ½ day: 260 Euro – fishing license, gear and coffee for 5 people included.

Other: It is also possible to book accommodation in a cottage on an island with an outdoor barrel bath and sauna.

Patrik Lehtonen

"I have worked fulltime as a guide during the last six years and last year alone I did more than 200 tours. The years before that it was more of a part-time job. My genuine interest for fishing in combination with working for myself made me take the big step. Privately I used to fish more than 100 times a year and thought that it was a good foundation."

Special interests: Jerkbait and jig fishing are my favourites but I enjoy all types of fishing. Nothing works best all the time, but they all work sometime and that is the thrill - to find the right method for the day. Jerkbait and jig fishing is more demanding and you have to be active, which I think means that you appreciate the catches even more.

Area: Generally across all of Åland. We have our boats on trailers and we can always fish where it is optimal but we also sometimes start from where our guests stay. So each day we can fish in new areas.

Boats: Robalo 2520, with 2 Suzuki 150 hp, 4-stroke, holds 7 fishing people. Nymar 610 with 90 hp Suzuki 4-stroke holds 5 fishing people. Equipped with Lowrance and Garmin sonar and navigational equipment.

The guiding includes: Reels of high quality and rods from Shimano. For example Twinpower and Technium reels and Speedmaster and Beastmaster rods for reel, spinning and UL-fishing. When it comes to baits we have all the latest, combined with old favourites. SeaFox floating overalls. Inflatable life jackets from Rapala.

Price example, standard guiding ½ day: Our prices begin at 350 Euro for half day fishing and that includes boat, guide, fishing license, all fishing gear, floating overalls and life jackets. The price depends on how many you are and which boat is used.

Other: All fishing tours can include lunch/beverages/coffee or we can tailor the day according to the customer's wishes. I also arrange for my guests' accommodation and transportation.

SPORTFISHING GUIDE KALLE PETTERSSON

Kalle has worked as a sport fishing guide since 1991 and is the pike king of Åland.

"I have always been interested in boats and water", he says.

Offers: Fishing for pike, perch and sea trout.

Special interests: The perch fishing in September to October. I have developed a special technique that makes it easy for anybody to catch many fish. Also rod fishing for sea trout and trolling in spring.

Area: Around Mariehamn and Hammarudda.

Boats: Wahale 21’ and Mako 25’

The guiding includes: All equipment for rod fishing and trolling and floating overalls. I also have access to a cottage for coffee breaks and to get warm. Lunch is often included.

Price example, standard guiding ½ day: Everything can be booked and arranged by Henrik Nordström.

Other: You can take the fish home gutted and packed for your trip home. I only fish for fish that can be used for food. I never fish in their breeding season, for example pike in spring.

THE FISHING BOAT LINDAMARI

Henrik Söderlund has worked as a fishing guide since 2005, but has 30 years of salmon fishing experience.

Offers: Trolling for salmon and spinning from boat for salmon trout.

Special interests: Trolling for salmon is my specialty. I have 30 year's experience of professional salmon fishing and I know their moving patterns.

Area: Western and South west Åland.

Boat: Finn Ficherman, 6 persons

The guiding includes: All necessary fishing gear and equipment. Also boots, floating overalls and life jackets. Food is also available by request.

Price example, standard guiding ½ day: Salmon trolling 6 hours for 6 persons, 944 Euro incl. VAT. Includes: Boat with guide and fishing gear, floating overalls, hearty lunch, coffee with bread and one or more surprises.

Other: The boat is probably unique when it comes to what Åland has to offer in the area. 11 meters long, 3.5 meters wide, built in 2005, 450 hp, top speed 28 knots. Deck furniture of teak with seat pads, large and spacious toilet, modern navigational equipment etc.

ANDERSSON'S BÅT & FISKECHARTER

Christian Andersson has worked as a fishing guide since 1997.

"My main interest is sport fishing, so my career choice wasn't difficult."

Offers: Spinning for pike and trout. Jig fishing for perch and pikeperch. Trolling for salmon and trout. Ice fishing for pike, perch and pikeperch.

Special interests: I enjoy all types of fishing: spinning, jig fishing, trolling and ice fishing. All methods have their appeal and finesses which vary according to season and the time of year. And when you can vary your fishing style with the circumstances, the chances for a good catch increase.

Area: I usually start from Mariehamn. I also go fishing in the vast area in between Vårdö in the east to Eckerö in the west depending on where the fishing is best for the day.

Boats: Boat 1 is a Kulkuri 31 feet, a very stable and seaworthy boat. 250 hp engine and a 20 hp engine for fishing. Heating, WC, radar, electronic nautical chart, sonar, max 9 persons. Boat 2 is a Utter 465 with 20 hp engine, sonar, max 3 persons. This boat is on a trailer.

The guiding includes: All fishing gear for all types of fishing; spinning, jig fishing, trolling, jerk bait and two-piece floating overall, two-piece rain gear and gas inflatable life jackets.

Price example, standard guiding ½ day: Half day guiding: 80 euro/person, price from 4 persons. Full day guiding: 100 euro/person, price from 4 persons. Special price för families with children. The price includes: Fishing license, all fishing gear, clothes and life jackets, i.e. everything, except food. 

Other: Possibility for ordering food: Archipelago fish soup with black bread, traditional "hemvete" bread, butter, cheese, mineral water and coffee for 15 Euro/person. Thai stew with rice and bread, butter, mineral water and coffee for 12 Euro/person. Sausage soup with traditional bread, butter, cheese, mineral water and coffee for 12 Euro/person. Pasta salad with chicken and baguette, butter, mineral water and coffee for 8 Euro/person. Coffee/Tea with traditional Åland "hemvete" bread for 6 Euro/person.

SILVERSKÄR

Johan Mörn has worked as a fishing guide since 1996 on Silverskär. "Sport fishing is the best way for us to offer fishing to our guests."

Offers: Spinning from boat or shore for pike, perch and trout.

Area: Northern Åland

Boats: Kulkuri 31, Kulkuri 21 and Bella Sunmar

The guiding includes: All equipment and gear.

Silverskär's guidings: A one day package may for example include accommodation at Silverskär, fishing, all meals and wood heated sauna.

Other: It is possible to order well-prepared food with an archipelago touch. Also a visit to the archipelago crofter's house Kråkskär, Rannö, Väderskär, the eremite shack on Sviskär etc.

FISKEFRÖJDEN

Kaj Lundberg

"I have worked with fish all my life and rod fishing since I was 10 years old. My knowledge about where the fish stay and live, which I have gained during my time as a professional fisherman, is of great value."

"I did my first sport fishing guiding in 1984 with Swedish actress Britt Ekland's father, Sven Ekland and his friends. When he died I had become very interested in guiding and I began full scale in 1994."

Offers: Spinning for pike, trout (perch). Fishing from a boat.

Special interests: Spinning from a boat, finding the best spots.

Area: Jurmo (Brändö) where I fish on my own (rented) fishing grounds where only I have the right to fish.

Boats: Naviga 8,6 meters, 8 (10) persons.

The guiding includes: Life jackets, fishing gear and equipment can be rented for 4 Euro/hour. Bait included.

Price example, standard guiding ½ day: Prices depend on the number of persons but is about 40-45 euro/hour. Lunch is 8-10 euro/person and dinner 20-25 euro/person. I also charge a fish fee of 7 Euro/person so that I can replenish with pike fry.

Other: I enjoy cooking on the beach for my guests - even 3 course meals if requested. Preferably fresh fish. I can also offer a hot sauna on a private island.
