One of the most popular golfcourses in the Nordic countries!
Since opening in 1983, the Åland Golf Club has expanded its course to include 36-holes. There are two complete 18-hole courses in the nature-rich environment of Kastelholm. The grounds are situated on a point between two inlets and feature an attractive clubhouse, café, restaurant, modern service building with offices, pro shop, changing rooms and sauna. The restaurant is fully-licenced.
Plenty of Variety
We offer a great deal of variation to your game and you can get in a lot of golf as well. You can book 18 holes per day and are able to play more when available. Our green fee is valid for the entire day.
Castle course – The most beautiful golf course in the North?
The first part of the Castle course was opened in 1983. Like few other courses, it is in perfect harmony with its environment. The area is particularly well-suited for a golf course and the architect, Jan Sederholm, planned the course so that it merges superbly into the surrounding countryside. The Castle course is often considered one of the most beautiful courses in the North!
Most of the Castle course (Slottsbanan) holes have a magnificent view of the Slottssundet bay, across which you can see Åland´s only castle, Kastelholm. In the 16th century, King Eric XIV of Sweden was imprisoned in a tower room of this castle.
When playing golf on the Castle course you can always feel the presence of the sea. You are close to nature! The experience varies from season to season.
The King´s course has more of an inland and forest character than the Castle course, but nevertheless it has several scenic views of the sea. At the 6th hole you will find yourself on top of a hill amongst stunted pines and overlooking Åland´s largest inland sea, Lumparn. Below you lies a magnificent par 3-hole where you might need anything from a no. 9 iron to a spoon, depending on the wind.
This course is situated in the ancient hunting grounds of the Royal Manor of Kastelholm where swedish kings used to hunt elk hundreds of years ago. One of them was the famous king Gustavus Vasa, from whom the course derives its name, the ’King´s course’ (Kungsbanan). We welcome you here – not for an elk hunt – but for birdies and eagles.
The 36-hole golf course at Åland Golf Club is situated in Kastelholm, directly in the centre of Åland, about 20 kilometres from the maritime town of Mariehamn and about 45 kilometres from Eckerö harbour.
When coming from Mariehamn, take the main road no.2 towards Godby. Pass Godby and cross the bridge of Färjsundet. 3½ km after the bridge turn right towards Kastelholm, and turn right again just before Kastelholm castle. You will soon see parts of the golf course. Follow the signs to the car-park next to the club house.
When driving from Eckerö, take the main road no.1 towards Mariehamn. From Näfsby, about halfway to Mariehamn, turn left to Bjärström. When you reach the main road no. 2, turn left to Godby and follow the instructions above.
We look forward to welcoming you!
