Tired legs? Jump on a bus!
It’s easy to get around Mariehamn by bus. All routes start at 7 in the morning and run every half-hour on weekdays after the 15th of August. The start and end point for each route is in the town centre next to the department store Magazin. A round trip takes 25 minutes. And there are no worries about buying the right ticket because travelling by buses is free!
Röde Orm, which runs the buses in Mariehamn, operates environment friendly buses with low floors that make it easy to get on and off. The buses all have Nordic names and are equipped to a very high standard of comfort.
Northbound routes
For example, if you jump on a route A bus you can ride to the bus station, the music institute, the hospital, Strandnäs, Norrböle, where the boat and appliances store Kalmers is, or the Sports Park. Route C runs similar routes but goes clockwise via Klinten and also by Mariehamn church.
Southbound routes
Route B runs southwards via Västernäs and you can get off at the Market Square, Mariehamn church, the western harbour or Östernäs. You’ll get to Östernäs more quickly, however, if you take route D that is a similar route to route B but runs in the other direction via Neptunigatan and Skillnadsgatan.
