Åland’s Maritime Museum re-opens
Åland’s Maritime Museum will re-open in spring 2012 when an extension nearly doubling the floor space is finished.
Old and new favourites.
Old favourites such as the captain’s saloon, crew quarters, figureheads, and our authentic pirate flag will still have their place while a new permanent exhibtion will bring Åland’s maritime history to life through four main themes: the age of sail, the machine-driven era, shipbuilding and sea safety.
There’ll be a fun learning room/play area for younger visitors and interactive stations where you can load a cargo ship, guide ships into port with our new simulator, sing karaoke on a passenger ship or look up further information e-readers. There’ll also be a new space for temporary exhibitions and the museum’s reference library, and an auditorium for lectures, films and other events.
And it’s not just the museum which is being renewed and extended - we are currently developing a new, improved website, and you can also be friends with us on Facebook.
We are very much looking forward to re-opening and welcoming you to the museum early next year.

Opening times 2012:
26 April – 31 August: every day 10-17
1 September – 31 December: every day 11-16
If you would like to visit us at other times, please contact us at info@sjofartsmuseum.ax or phone +358 (0)18 19930.
