This is a route suggestion for enjoyers of life. Stay comfortably at the new Hotel Pommern in Mariehamn. After your cycle tour to Järsö – a 18 kilometres roundtrip – you can relax at spa, massage or other relaxing treatments at Team MassageNu.

Begin with renting a bicycle from RO-NO, in the western harbour of Mariehamn, some 400 meters from the hotel. Then cycle through town, along Ålandsvägen to Järsö which is a place of great natural beauty. The route offers fine bridges, road banks and beautiful archipelago nature. Along the way you can make a stop at Nåtö beach and swim in the sea. At the Nåtö Biological Station there is also a 2 km long nature trail which is easy to walk.

Where the Järsö road ends waits a well deserved time out at the Stickstugan Hantverk & Café; a handicraft café filled with knitted handicrafts in lively colours. Apart from good home-baked goods you’ll also find delicious chocolate here. You may also want to hike the 2 km long nature trail in Järsö, which gives you glimpses of the outer archipelago. Near the trail are also a barbecue station and a toilet.

More excursion suggestions

If you want to make other short bicycle trips from Mariehamn, we recommend a trip to the Önningeby Museum where you can experience the art of the Önningeby colony – the equivalent of the Danish Skagen colony. Stay for a coffee in the café before you continue to Lemström’s canal, which is a popular excursion destination.

Another alternative is to visit Ramsholmen, some 5 kilometers from central Mariehamn. Ramsholmen is a nature reserve with wonderfully beautiful forest meadows and a magnificent spring flowering. In the nature reserve there is a nature trail of 1.5 km.
